Robin Chandler, Applications & Technical Support Engineer, Hitachi Ireland
Hitachi Air Conditioning Europe SAS has expanded its customer service support in Ireland with the appointment of Robin Chandler, a new applications and technical support engineer.
Robin joins Hitachi’s Dublin office from award-winning Irish contractor and long-standing Hitachi customer, Tech Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, where he was Assistant Contracts Manager and Senior Estimator.
As well as a sound knowledge of Hitachi’s products, installation and applications, Robin has 10 years of design experience within the building industry having worked as a senior draughtsman with a number of professional building services companies.
“I am really looking forward to providing invaluable support to Hitachi’s installer network here in Ireland” commented Robin. ”It’s a fantastic opportunity to expand my Hitachi product knowledge further while working alongside a very professional and customer service-oriented team.”
Fergus Daly, Hitachi Area Sales Manager for Ireland, told Building Services News: ”Joining us from a well-respected air conditioning installer, with a solid building industry background and a keen eye for detail, Robin brings a new perspective to our applications and technical support services.”
Hitachi offers advice and technical support via Skype and Facetime, as well as its technical helpdesk. To find out more visit hitachiaircon.com/argws/en/helpingyou

The inaugural Hitachi-sponsored CIBSE YEN 5-a-side soccer tournament took place recently at the Astro Park complex in Tallaght, Co Dublin. Teams participating included BDP, Ethos Engineering, Hevac, IN2 Engineering, OCSC and Origen. As subs were also allowed a total of 38 players were involved.
The games kicked off at 6pm on two pitches with matches running simultaneously and lasting 10 minutes. This didn’t allow much breathing space between games with several matches running back to back. By the end of the round-robin league with all teams having played each other once, two teams — OCSS and Ethos — were joined on ten points. They then played out a hard-fought final with Ethos emerging popular winners on the night.
After the official presentations pitch side by Fergus Daly, Area Sales Manager, Hitachi Ireland, everyone adjourned to the local Metro Bar to socialise and network.
All credit to Aaron Brogan and Adam Dent, Chair and Vice-Chair respectively of CIBSE YEN for organising the tournament, and indeed for playing as well! “We are delighted with the number of teams that turned out”, says Aaron, “and a special thanks to Hitachi for their sponsorship and support. We’re confident that this will now become an annual event.”
With the industry picking up and consultancies employing more and more newly-qualified graduates, there is a palpable sense of excitement and camaraderie returning to the sector. This is a welcome development and one which should be encouraged by all. Harnessing this new sense of vitality and energy is the CIBSE Young Engineers (YEN) group who have devised an exciting programme of events for the coming months.
It kicks off (literally) with the 5-a-side CIBSE YEN football tournament being held later this month. If you are a young engineer get together with your colleagues and enter a team. If you are a senior engineer/manager/owner, then what better way to foster employee morale than by encouraging your employees to participate.
Full details are as follows but why not contact Aaron Brogan at firstname.lastname@example.org or Adam Dent at email@example.com directly and sign up now.
The soccer blitz will be held between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday, 21 of May 2015, at the Astro Park in Tallaght, Co Dublin, with trophy presentation and refreshments sponsored by Hitachi Ireland taking place in the Metro Cafe Bar afterwards. The tournament will consist of eight teams with each team playing a minimum of three matches, split between two pitches. The tournament winners will be crowned Champions of the 1st annual CIBSE Soccer Blitz.
Please note: Entry fee is €25 euro per team.
Shamrock Rovers will host Premier League title chasers Liverpool at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday 14 May. Trevor Croly’s side will take on the Reds in a 5.30pm kick-off at the Lansdowne Road venue, a far cry from Rovers then state-of-the-art Milltown home ground where they last met in 1982.
Hitachi’s Martin O’Brien – a fanatical fan of both clubs – is eagerly looking forward to the clash. Coincidentally, Hitachi sponsored Liverpool FC at the time of the last meeting, as the image from the cover of the match programme on the night clearly demonstrates. The honours finished even on that occasion.
Here’s to a Rovers win this time around.

Due to continued growth and expansion Hitachi Air Conditioning Ireland has moved to new premises located at Unit 9, Bluebell Business Park, Dublin 12. In addition to larger office accommodation, the purpose-designed unit also incorporates a tailor-made training facility to house the Hitachi Ireland Training Aircademy.
This is a very important element of the support service provided by Hitachi and means that installers and dealers can benefit from a whole programme of training courses and seminars. They will run continuously throughout the year, while dedicated modules on specific products and systems will be available on request.
“We’re very excited about the move”, says Area Sales Manager Fergus Daly, “and especially so as it particularly reflects the steady growth in business over the last six months; we needed these additional facilities to accommodate this growth, and to provide the platform for continued expansion into next year.
“To this end we will continue to maintain a strong marketing presence in traditional media but will supplement that with increased activity on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and by offering various apps.
